Smooth Operator: roles and team management

Create roles from templates, see what someone can do, and change permissions — by asking.

Role management is the one area where the agent is editing who can do what, so every write here is confirmed and audited.

Start from a template. The eight built-ins encode sensible permission sets, and each seeds its own default CRM views.

How to

  1. 1

List the templates to see what is on offer.

  2. 2

Create a role from the closest template, then narrow it.

  3. 3

Assign it to someone by email.

  4. 4

Check what they actually hold afterwards.

Permissions come from every role a person holds, combined.

Ask Smooth Operator

  • What role templates are available?
  • Create a Sales Rep role from the template
  • Assign the Sales Rep role to [email protected]
  • What roles does [email protected] have, and what do they let her do?
  • List our roles and how many people hold each

If something goes wrong

A role cannot be edited.
System roles are shared and immutable. Create a custom role from a template instead.
Someone lost access to a whole product after a role change.
Adding any `product.*` key to a role turns it into an allow-list — from then on the role sees only the products explicitly granted. Add the others back, or remove all `product.*` keys to restore the default.
