Smooth Modes — choosing what a turn costs
Each mode pins a message to a specific model, split into a budget tier for everyday work and a premium tier that spends real money.
A mode is a model with a name. Flash, Code, UI, Plan and Fast are the budget tier and the everyday drivers; the "+" modes and Max are the premium tier, which is the expensive one.
Switching tiers is deliberate on purpose. The mode is shown on the composer chip at all times, so a pricey model is never something you are on without knowing.
How to

Tap the mode chip to the left of the composer to change the model for what you are about to send.

Set the mode new chats start on under Settings → Default Smooth Mode.
Fresh installs start on Flash. The default is remembered across launches.

Reach for the premium tier when the answer is worth it — a hard plan, a tricky refactor — and drop back afterwards.
The Stats tab breaks spend down by model on a direct connection, which is how you find out whether a habit is costing you.
If something goes wrong
- The mode you picked is not the one shown on the next chat.
- The composer chip changes the mode for this conversation. What new chats start on is the separate default in Settings.
- The mode reads differently on your Mac and your phone.
- They should match — the phone, the desktop app and the terminal share one mode list with the same names and ids. If they differ, one of the two is an older build.
