Chat with Big Smooth from your phone
The chat tab drives a real session on your Mac — same conversations, same tools, with approvals for anything that writes.
Chat is the app. Everything you type goes to the agent on your Mac, which has your machine, your calendar and the web — so it is the same conversation you would have sitting at the keyboard, not a cut-down mobile version.
Conversations are stored by the daemon, not the phone. A chat you start on the phone is there on your Mac and the other way round, and switching to a different machine means a different set of conversations.
How to

Type in the composer and send.
The empty screen tells you if anything is in the way first — it never shows a raw error, only the one thing to fix.

While a reply is streaming, the send button becomes Stop.
Stopping cancels the turn cleanly on the Mac; the reply closes out where it got to rather than vanishing.

Answer approvals when they appear above the composer.
Anything that writes — a file, an email, a command — parks and waits for you. Approve or Deny; nothing runs until you say.

Open the conversations list from the top-left to resume an older chat, or start a new one from the top-right.
Resuming binds a new session to that conversation and loads its history. You can rename a chat from the list.
If something goes wrong
- The send button is greyed out.
- Sending is blocked while the connection is not addressable — not connected, the Mac offline, or no machine chosen yet. The empty state names which one.
- "Big Smooth restarted — please try again."
- The daemon restarted while the app held a session. The app already retried your message once against a fresh session; the message you sent is in the transcript, so send it again rather than retyping it from memory.
- A reply never arrives and the chat looks stuck.
- Check the header: if the connection dropped mid-turn the app is re-dialing. Once it reconnects, send again — a turn composed with no live session is queued and delivered when the session comes back.
- Your conversations are gone after switching machines.
- They are on the other Mac. Each daemon keeps its own conversation store; switch back in Settings and they return.
- You want to be told when he needs a decision.
- Not yet — push notifications are still coming, so approvals wait in the app until you open it. Keep the chat open for anything long-running you want to babysit.
